Skogsøy 07-08 May 2016 Camping drama

Sunny and warm with SE winds.

Male Black Redstart svartrødstjert

Kicked off the camping trip pretty well with a cracking male Black Redstart svartrøstjert which more than made up for not bothering with the female at adjacent Herdlevær earlier in the day. Redshank rødstilk, Whimbrel småspove and Red-throated Diver smålom also on the move well into the evening.

Migrating Tufted Duck toppand

An early start on 08 May did not give anything more than small numbers of the usual suspects, although an Arctic Tern rødnebbterne was the first of the year as were a couple of Sand Martin sandsvale. Just one White-billed Diver gulnebblom today.

On the way home the drama really started with my youngest having a fall and cutting her knee open - something that required eight stitches. Thank goodness for the first aid kit I normally carry.

Needless to say the rest of the day was spent at home. Something that resulted in more Sand Martins sandsvale that joined joined other hirundines over the woods at Nautnes later in the day.
