After a lovely weekend of birding it was straight into a couple of days of guiding and thus lots more birding:)
On 13th it was overcast with drizzle early on and it took a while to get off the terrace as there was a lot going on with four Otters swimming past whilst three White-tailed Eagle havørn passed overhead. Plenty of other stuff in the garden too with Chiff-chaff gransanger, Goldfinches stillits, Bullfinch dompap, Sparrowhawk spurvehauk and more. 25 species before managing to get out of the house:)
A drive-by at Herdlevær gave a Pinkfoot kortnebbgås with 11 Greylags grågås, several Redwing rødvingetrost and a couple of Red-throated Divers smålom on the sea.
At Kollsnes a Stonechat svartstrupe was the best bird and a flock of 12 Redwing rødvingetrost turned up.
Continuing the drive-by theme whilst waiting for the weather to improve gave Snipe enkeltbekkasin and more Redwing rødvingetrost at Adnevika and several Tufted Duck toppand at Alvheim.
Hellesøy was quite good with a couple of Stonechat svartstrupe, Willow Tit granmeis, White-tailed Eagle havørn, Sparrowhawk spurvehauk, a couple of Rock Pipit skjærpiplerke, Gannets havsule and two Guillemot lomvi.
At Sæle a small flock of Goldcrests fuglekonge gave great views. Chiff-chaff gransanger, Oystercatcher tjeld, more White-tailed Eagles havørn and the usual suspects were also present.
Tjeldstø was a bit on the quiet side but still provided some new species for the day including several Teal krikkand and a Goldeneye kvinand.
The next day started with more of the same with Otter and White-tailed Eagles havørn from th terrace before we left. A Jay nøtteskrike in the garden was an unusual sighting.
As we left Øygarden we popped in at a few places along the way with Solberg producing more eagles, Curlew storspove, a Velvet Scoter sjøorre, Shags toppskarv and the usual. At Alvheim seven White-tailed Eagles havørn made them the most numerous species at this locality!
At Breivik we stopped to admire some thrushes when I spotted a female Blackcap munk and whilst following this realised there was a serious wagtail feeding on a lawn. This was an Eastern Yellow Wagtail østgulerle . It gave very good views and called a couple of times - sounding rather hoarse like Citrine wag. Twitchers were on site within a few minutes of putting the bird out on the local messaging system.
After this we went off site to Herdla where we spent the afternoon. Plenty of birds to see there as usual with eight Pinkfeet kortnebbgås, two Barnacle Geese hvitkinngås and seven Shoveler skjeand the best birds in a local context. Also a few species of raptors, a Grey Plover tundralo, Velvet Scoters sjøorre, Common Scoters svartand and plenty more.
