Here in "Hordaland" there is a three day bird race around New Year every year.
Some seabirds are easiest to see in Øygarden so I went to Skogsøy despite the total lack of wind.
Most of the target species were seen including Gannet havsule, Kittiwake krykkje, Great Northern Diver islom (one heading north and one on the sea), a Little Auk alkekonge and a Guillemot lomvi were the birds I was after.
Incredibly I had two new species for the 2020 Skogsøy list - Purple Sandpiper fjæreplytt and bird of the day in a Skogsøy context - a Treecreeper trekryper.
A stroll around Tjeldstø with one of my daughters produced at least three Snipe enkeltbakkasin, a Goldfinch stillits, a Redwing rødvingetrost and most of the usual suspects.
A decent start in cracking winter weather🙂
