Øygarden 03-04 January 2021 - Drive-bys

Calm, sunny and frosty.

A late walk at Blomøy on 03 January produced very little other than the usual White-tailed Eagles havørn, a flock of 12 Purple Sandpiper fjæreplytt and a couple of Redwing rødvingetrost. A Common Snipe enkeltbekkasin at Breivik was seen on the way home.

The only new for the year were 8 Whoopers sangsvane on Storavatnet.

With a lot of freshwater now frozen it was no surprise that a Goldeneye kvinand turned up on the sea in front of my house.

Now that the carefree days of freelancing are over activity on 04 January was limited to little more than drive-bys whilst out running errands.

Solberg was quite interesting from a fish point of view with something big chasing smaller fish - normally a summer thing. Birds were limited to singles of Black Guillemot teist, Guillemot lomvi, Gannet havsule and Common Scoter svartand along with most of the usual suspects.

Alvheim produced the first Redpoll gråsisik of the year, Collared Doves tyrkedue were seen whilst driving through Oen and a Jay nøtteskrike flew over the road at Hatten.
