Skogsøy 26 February 2024 - Survivors

Calm, sunny and mild so I headed out to Skogsøy for a couple of hours to check what was going on.

On the way out Robin rødstrupe and Blackbird svarttrost were both singing and I flushed a Woodcock rugde close to the path. Really good to see that at least some of the birds that gambled on overwintering made it through the longer than usual cold spells:)

Early morning view from Skogsøy

Seawatching from 0815 to 1000 was predictably rather quiet but the southbound migration of Shags toppskarv was obviously fully underway with 109 passing. A single Oystercatcher tjeld,  headed north, a Great Northen Diver islom south and a decent variety of other species were seen so it was well worth the effort.

A Yellowhammer gulspurv at Oen on the way home was the first I've seen locally this year and may well have been a migrant.
