Skogsøy 12 November 2012 - Gyr!

Strong westerly winds with showers. VERY wet underfoot.

Headed out for a couple of hours seawatching which in itself produced rather little - small numbers of Little Auk alkekonge, a couple of Red-throated Diver smålom and a light passage of Common Scoter svartand.

The best bird by far was seen just as I arrived at the lookout point. Two falcons came past - one "tiny" Peregrine vandrefalk positively dwarfed by a massive pale grey Gyr Falcon jaktfalk. The larger falcon promtly disappeared whilst the Peregrine made repeated sorties out over the sea - at least one attempt was successful.

At least two White-tailed Eagle havørn present. Other birds included a flock of 22 Fieldfare gråtrost and a couple of Velvet Scoter sjøorre.
