Skogsøy 15 April 2019 - High pressure seawatching

Calm and sunny yet again, the high pressure continues.

The weather conditions are probably ideal for the birds but it means no big numbers pass like they do after a period of poor weather. Today was similar to a couple of days ago with a steady passage which resulted in well over 700 birds on the move. Today it was just the usual suspects for the time of year with Common Gull fiskemåke, Oystercatcher tjeld and Shag toppskarv dominating. 15 Red-throated Diver smålom, a Puffin lunde and a few Guillemots lomvi were also seen.

One of many Gannets havsule seen today

Flocks of Oystercatcher tjeld on their way north

Shags toppskarv

Siskin grønnsisik - a species that is really arriving at the moment. This was with a male in a suitable breeding location.

Passerines included Twite bergirisk, Linnet tornirisk, Siskin grønnsisik and more.

Several White-tailed Eagle havørn seen during the course of the day including one that flew past the lookout at Skogsøy.

I received a message about a "white heron" at Tjeldstø which I didn't see until too late. I checked the area out in the evening without any luck, though I did see a pile of white feathers close to where it was seen.....
